Aaron Pico’s UFC Destiny: Champion Respect

Aaron Pico, after appreciating his time with Bellator MMA and a brief stint in the PFL, has signed with the UFC to pursue his goal of becoming recognized as the best featherweight fighter in the world, emphasizing the UFC’s status as the top organization and expressing confidence in his skills and readiness to compete at the highest level.

Aaron Pico cherished his time fighting for Bellator MMA. Yet, deep down, he always knew his ultimate path had to lead to the UFC.

After a stint with the PFL, following Bellator’s asset acquisition, Pico hit free agency. His contract expired, and his eyes were set on the UFC. A public dispute led PFL to relinquish their matching rights, paving the way for Pico’s official signing with the UFC on Tuesday. Now, the real grind begins.

“It’s the biggest organization in the world,” Pico remarked to MMA Fighting before signing. “It’s just the highest level. Let’s be real.” He acknowledged that while other organizations have talent, true respect comes with being a UFC champion. Why else would Patricio Pitbull be eager to join?

Many fighters crave the UFC spotlight because of its prestige and relentless work ethic. “I want to go do my job,” Pico expressed, confident in their potential for successful collaboration.

Pitbull, once Bellator’s featherweight king, also made his move to the UFC, debuting soon against Yair Rodriguez. Pico seeks similar opportunities as he enters his prime, aiming for a swift title run.

“I’m getting better,” Pico mused. Reflecting on his early days, he marveled at his growth. “How did I even fight back then?” The skills he’s honing now are transformative.

Years ago, there was hesitation. But under Brandon Gibson and Greg Jackson’s tutelage, Pico’s confidence soared. He’s ready to face anyone at 145 pounds—anytime, anywhere.

Like Michael Chandler and Kayla Harrison before him, Pico joins the UFC amidst high expectations—but none higher than his own aspirations.

Though not yet a household name, Pico believes that will change with his UFC debut. “The UFC fans haven’t seen me yet,” he said with anticipation. “I think that’s a whole different ballgame.” Exciting times ahead!
