UFC bantamweight Adrian Yanez was disappointed in his lack of activity in 2022 but was able to improve his training and will face Rob Font in a 135-pound main card bout at UFC 287.
UFC bantamweight Adrian Yanez recently reflected on his 2022 year, expressing disappointment in his lack of activity in the octagon. Despite having had three fights in 2021, Yanez only had a single bout in the past year. However, the Texas-based fighter was content with his overall performance, which included earning a ranking via a big win in June.
2022 was an unprecedented year for Yanez when it came to his training. More than ever before, he was able to source proper coaching for his development. The 28-year-old gained an MMA coach in Yves Edwards, a striking coach in Michael Chase Corley, and a strength and conditioning coach Phil. With the new-found support of these coaches, Yanez has been able to improve in all areas of his game.
On April 8, Yanez will fight Rob Font in Miami, Florida, with hopes of extending his current winning streak to 10 fights. Yanez had nothing but admiration for Font, whom he referred to as one of his idols in the sport, who initially made his professional debut around the same time Yanez started fighting. Yanez’s plan for the Font fight is to stick to his striking game plan and be patient yet persistent, looking for the right opportunity for a knockout.
Yanez is fully aware of the wealth of possibilities his position in the bantamweight division offers him. However, he is taking things one fight at a time and concentrating solely on the Font fight, rather than considering any possible matchups that may lie ahead. His message is clear: be patient, focused, and take it one step at a time.
