Alex Pereira was inducted into the GLORY Kickboxing Hall of Fame, becoming the third fighter to receive this honor, thanks to his impressive career as a two-division champion and his contributions to stand-up combat.
Alex Pereira has been honored with induction into the GLORY Kickboxing Hall of Fame, solidifying his status as one of the organization’s greatest champions. Already a two-division champion in GLORY, Pereira earned both the light heavyweight and middleweight titles before transitioning to MMA. He now joins the esteemed ranks of Semmy Schilt and “Bazooka” Joe Valtellini in the GLORY Hall of Fame.
Scott Rudmann, co-founder and Vice Chairman of GLORY, praised Pereira’s accomplishments, stating, “Alex Pereira was one of the greatest champions in GLORY history. His accomplishments in the GLORY ring speaks for themselves, as the only man ever hold the champions belt in two weight classes simultaneously.” Rudmann also commended Pereira’s commitment to community service in Brazil and his humble demeanor. Pereira’s success in MMA has further showcased his stand-up combat skills, creating a lasting impact in the combat sports realm.
During his tenure with GLORY, Pereira amassed a record of 11-4, breaking middleweight history with the most title defenses. Notably, his clashes with future UFC champion Israel Adesanya were highly anticipated. In their first encounter, Pereira secured a unanimous decision victory, which was followed by a brutal knockout win in their rematch.
Pereira’s successful transition to MMA allowed him to continue making waves in the sport. He even claimed the middleweight championship by knocking out Adesanya in the UFC. However, Adesanya got his revenge in their second MMA fight. Currently, Pereira is set to face Jiri Prochazka in the UFC 295 main event on November 11, where he will have the opportunity to vie for the vacant light heavyweight title.
With his induction into the GLORY Hall of Fame, Pereira’s legacy as a dominant force in kickboxing and MMA is further solidified. His achievements speak volumes, and his ongoing contributions to combat sports continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
