Alex Pereira will not be stepping in to headline UFC 310 on short notice, despite speculation following Belal Muhammad‘s withdrawal, and his next title defense is unlikely to occur before UFC 312 in February 2025.
Alex Pereira’s not stepping in to save another UFC pay-per-view on short notice. Nope, not this time.
“Poatan” had fans buzzing about a potential headliner spot at UFC 310 on Dec. 7. The buzz began when welterweight champ Belal Muhammad pulled out of his fight with Shavkat Rakhmonov. Pereira added fuel to the fire by posting a phone emoji after hearing the news. But, alas, it seems the fight isn’t happening.
In 2024, “Poatan” was quite the busy bee—three fights, all title defenses. He knocked out Jamahal Hill, Jiri Prochazka, and Khalil Rountree Jr., two of those on short notice! Another quick turnaround? Not this time.
Meanwhile, Alexandre Pantoja vs. Kai Asakura for the UFC flyweight championship stays as the top bout for UFC 310. It’s still holding its ground as the main attraction.
When will Pereira defend his title next? That’s anyone’s guess right now. With UFC’s first pay-per-view of 2025 set for Jan. 18, it’s a stretch to think he’ll be ready by then. UFC 312 on Feb. 8 in Sydney might be more realistic.
Ankalaev is waiting in the wings for a shot at the 205-pound championship. He’s eager to face Pereira as soon as Dec. 7! The Russian fighter’s on a roll with a 13-fight unbeaten streak, including wins over Johnny Walker and Aleksandar Rakic in 2024.
