Remember when Perez knocked out Matheus Nicolau? That was a short-notice main event. After that, Perez was all set to face Tagir Ulanbekov on June 15. That was the original plan, you know, before he stepped up to fight Nicolau in April.
But hey, things change. Now Perez is headlining again, but this time against a new face. Enter Taira, the undefeated sensation. He’s a big deal in the UFC flyweight division, weighing in at 125 pounds.
Taira is a 24-year-old Japanese flyweight with an impressive 15-0 record. He’s on a roll with five straight UFC wins. His latest victory? He knocked out Carlos Hernandez in the second round.
This is Taira’s first 2024 appearance. His previous bout with Tim Elliott was cancelled in May. He was then scheduled to fight Joshua Van at UFC 302. But now, he’s got a golden opportunity to headline his first UFC event against Perez, a one-time title challenger.
