Alexander Volkanovski is focused on regaining the UFC featherweight title from Ilia Topuria, with no confirmed plans for a fight yet, despite rumors of other matchups.
Alexander Volkanovski’s got his eyes set on Ilia Topuria and reclaiming the UFC featherweight title. That’s it, nothing else.
“We don’t know exactly what is going on yet,” he mentioned on his YouTube channel. “Obviously we’re fighting for the title. When is that going to be? That’s sort of a question.” Spain? Could be a stadium there. Maybe.
Sydney could still be in the mix. If so, Volkanovski’s staying fit, just in case camp starts soon. But hey, who knows? Nothing’s set in stone yet.
He lost the belt to Topuria with a second-round knockout at UFC 298 back in February. Since then, “The Great” has been out of action. Meanwhile, Topuria defended his title by knocking out Max Holloway at UFC 308 in October—first fighter ever to do that! Their octagon faceoff hinted at a rematch brewing.
Rumors flew about Volkanovski facing Diego Lopes at UFC 312 next February. But hold up! Sources told MMA Fighting there’s no truth to any agreements. In fact, one insider said the fight wasn’t even on the table.
Volkanovski confirmed these reports were bogus. He’s all about the world title shot next. “I don’t know where that sort of [came] from,” he said, dismissing the Sydney talk as mere speculation.
“You never know, right?” he added. The focus is clear: it’s the title fight or bust. Still, nothing’s locked down just yet.
