Alexander Volkanovski Reclaims Throne in UFC 314 Victory

Alexander Volkanovski reclaimed the featherweight title at UFC 314 by defeating Diego Lopes in a hard-fought, five-round battle, becoming the first fighter over 35 to hold a UFC title in any division from 155 pounds or below.

Alexander Volkanovski etched his name in the history books at UFC 314, reclaiming the featherweight title in a thrilling battle against Diego Lopes.

This victory not only reinstated Volkanovski as champion but also marked him as the first fighter over 35 to hold a UFC title in any division under 155 pounds. Despite facing some hurdles, he delivered a classic performance, outworking Lopes over five intense rounds.

The judges scored it 49-46, 49-46, and 48-47, crowning Volkanovski as a two-time featherweight champ.

“It’s good to be back,” Volkanovski exclaimed with the belt around his waist. “I promised my girls I’d bring this belt home. People counted me out after two knockout losses. Beating someone like Diego Lopes feels incredible. Adversity is a privilege.”

“This is the stuff of legends,” he continued. “Books will be written, movies made—this is what it’s all about!”

Though it wasn’t the result Lopes desired, he showcased tremendous skill in his first title shot. He vowed to climb that mountain again before hanging up his gloves.

“Sharing the octagon with Volkanovski was an honor,” Lopes said. “I’ll be back. I see myself improving and eventually becoming a champion.”

Volkanovski set the pace early with a powerful left hook that shook Lopes. He followed up with a takedown, overwhelming Lopes who seemed to struggle against the former champ’s relentless attack.

Finding his rhythm, Volkanovski picked shots from the outside while Lopes struggled to mount much offense. Another punch rocked Lopes towards the cage, though he managed to fend off a takedown.

Just when Volkanovski seemed in control, Lopes landed a shot that dropped him briefly. As the round ended, Volkanovski appeared frustrated by getting caught.

Despite a rocky second round end, Volkanovski regrouped well in the third, landing solid combos including a sharp left hook.

Lopes aimed for a brawl but struggled to engage Volkanovski until delivering a one-two combo that wobbled him.

Volkanovski wiped at his eye from damage while Lopes pressed forward seeking a finish. Yet, Volkanovski remained patient and composed until returning to his corner.

Back in his corner, Volkanovski mentioned impaired vision but regained clarity for the final round. He jabbed effectively while avoiding Lopes’ power punches.

Volkanovski’s precision and volume were key as he landed more strikes across five rounds. Though Lopes showed resilience, he couldn’t muster enough offense for victory.

Volkanovski’s performance silenced doubters post-back-to-back losses. Now, he’s champion again with eager contenders lining up for their shot at glory.
