Amanda Nunes vs Julianna Pena Trilogy: UFC 289 Main Event Showdown Announced

Amanda Nunes and Julianna Peña will face off in a trilogy bout for the bantamweight title at UFC 289, with the series currently tied at 1-1.

Amanda Nunes and Julianna Peña are set to face off once again in a highly anticipated trilogy bout. On Saturday’s UFC 287 broadcast, it was officially announced that Nunes (22-5) will defend her bantamweight title against Peña (11-5) as the main event of UFC 289. The event is scheduled to take place on June 10 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, with TSN being the first to report the bout.

Currently, Nunes holds the No. 1 spot at 135 pounds in the global rankings, while Peña follows closely behind at No. 2. So far, the two fighters are tied 1-1 in their series. Peña shocked fans by submitting Nunes with a second-round submission at UFC 269 and became the bantamweight champion. However, she lost the belt to Nunes in an immediate rematch at UFC 277, where “The Lioness” won with a lopsided unanimous decision and scores of 50-45, 50-44, and 50-43.

Before her loss to Peña, Nunes made history with a 12-fight win streak, which included five successful defenses of the bantamweight title and two defenses of the featherweight title. Nunes is currently the UFC champion in both divisions, making this trilogy bout an event not to be missed by MMA fans.
