UFC fighter Andre Lima got a tattoo to commemorate being the first to receive a bonus for being bitten in the ring, a move that led UFC CEO Dana White to double the bonus from $25,000 to $50,000.
Vegas, baby! It’s a city known for its impulsive choices. Andre Lima, a UFC fighter, took full advantage of this. He got himself a tattoo to commemorate a unique achievement. He’s the first UFC fighter to earn a bonus for being bitten in the ring.
The UFC Vegas 89 event hadn’t even wrapped up. Yet, Lima found himself in a local tattoo parlor. His new ink? A tribute to the bite mark left by his opponent, Igor Severino. This bite led to one of the most unusual UFC fight endings ever.
Dana White, the UFC CEO, was all for Lima’s decision. He’d promised a bonus to Lima for his ordeal. Then, he upped the ante. The bonus went from $25,000 to a whopping $50,000. It was a new category of bonus in the octagon: “I got f****** bit.”
Take a peek at Lima’s tattoo. It’s something else, huh?
Lima was declared the winner by disqualification. The officials had a good look at his arm. It left no doubt that Severino had bitten him during the first round clinch.
Severino? He initially denied biting Lima. But the visual evidence said otherwise. Dana White confirmed Severino’s release from the UFC. The UFC boss also hinted at possible disciplinary action by the Nevada Athletic Commission. They were the ones overseeing the event at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
Lima, on the other hand, had a pretty good night. He bagged his first UFC win that Saturday. He left Vegas with a permanent memento of a wild night.
