Anthony Hernandez has withdrawn from his upcoming UFC 302 fight against Roman Dolidze due to a torn hand ligament.
Anthony Hernandez? Yeah, he’s out. He was supposed to go toe-to-toe with Roman Dolidze. But that’s not happening anymore.
The fight was set for UFC 302. But “Fluffy,” as Hernandez is known, dropped a bombshell on Monday. He’s got a torn ligament in his hand. Ouch!
He made the announcement himself. “On Friday while training, I got hurt. The MRI results came in this morning. It’s a torn ligament in my hand. So, no fight on June 1. I’m sorry, UFC, Roman, and Mick Maynard. But I can’t push through this one.”
Hernandez was pretty bummed about it. He said, “I hope for a quick return and [to] be back in the cage before summer ends. Thanks to all my fans, friends & family for the continued support [heart hands emoji] … the journey continues.”
Hernandez is no small fry. He’s ranked No. 15 in the MMA Fighting Global Middleweight Rankings. He’s been on a roll, winning five fights in a row. His latest victory was against Roman Kopylov at UFC 298, where he won with a rear-naked choke.
Who’s gonna replace him? No word yet from UFC.
UFC 302 is scheduled for June 1. The venue is the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. The main event? A lightweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier.
