A clash between former UFC light heavyweight title challengers is on the horizon for December.
Insiders have confirmed to MMA Fighting that Anthony Smith and Dominick Reyes are set to face off at UFC 310, scheduled for Dec. 14 in Las Vegas. MMA Mania was first to break the news.
Smith’s recent record isn’t stellar; he’s lost four of his last six fights. His latest defeat came against Roman Dolidze at UFC 303 in June. “Lionheart” had a shining moment earlier this year, though, upsetting Vitor Petrino with a first-round guillotine at UFC 301 in May.
This upcoming bout will mark Smith’s 24th appearance in the octagon. Notably, he faced Jon Jones at UFC 235 in March 2019 but lost by decision in his only title shot to date.
Reyes made his comeback in June after a lengthy 19-month hiatus, finishing Dustin Jacoby in the first round at UFC Louisville. This victory was his first since he defeated Chris Weidman at UFC Boston back in October 2019.
“The Devastator” has had a rough patch too. He lost a controversial decision to Jones at UFC 247 in February 2020. Following that, Reyes suffered knockout losses to Jan Blachowicz, Jiri Prochazka, and Ryan Spann.
