BKFC champion Austin Trout credits Conor McGregor for heavily promoting and orchestrating the promotion’s debut card in Marbella, Spain, highlighting McGregor’s active involvement as a co-owner and promoter of BKFC, with aspirations to eventually compete in a bare-knuckle fight himself.
BKFC champ Austin Trout is gearing up to defend his title this Saturday in Marbella, Spain. Interestingly, Conor McGregor is getting some credit for making this event happen.
Over recent months, McGregor has been a big promoter of BKFC. Since becoming a part-owner, he’s been more than just a headline grabber. In fact, he’s been actively involved in the business side, with company founder David Feldman singing his praises.
Trout even mentions that McGregor orchestrated almost every aspect of the upcoming card in Spain. This event marks BKFC’s first collaboration with DAZN after securing a new broadcast deal.
“This Marbella fight? All Conor’s idea,” Trout shared with MMA Fighting. “He’s taken charge—securing venues, promoting heavily. He’s practically made Spain his second home.”
Having McGregor backing BKFC is thrilling for Trout. The Irish superstar isn’t just investing money; he’s putting in real work.
Since April, when his investment was announced, McGregor has been vocal about BKFC across his social media platforms. With over 60 million followers, that’s no small feat.
Trout sees firsthand how much McGregor is pushing to elevate BKFC’s brand. His ownership stake clearly means something significant to him.
“You couldn’t pay for this type of publicity,” Trout said. “Even when he’s sparring with Mike Perry online, you can tell he’s emotionally invested.”
“Shout out to Conor,” Trout added. “He’s about to blow this up—it’s a great time to be a champ.”
While primarily focusing on promotion and co-ownership, McGregor has expressed interest in competing in bare-knuckle fights eventually.
With only two bouts left on his current UFC contract, there’s speculation about him fighting for BKFC afterward if he doesn’t extend his deal.
If that happens, McGregor could choose any opponent for his debut. Trout feels he’d be an ideal choice—not only as a BKFC champion but also due to his successful boxing career against top names like Cotto and Alvarez.
“It would be one of the bigger fights in BKFC,” Trout remarked about potentially facing McGregor. “I’d gladly oblige—I’m your huckleberry.”
It remains uncertain if or when McGregor might make the move to BKFC. But based on the current roster, Trout believes he’d pose the biggest challenge and draw significant attention.
Though excited about the possibility, Trout warns McGregor that bare-knuckle fighting might not yield favorable results for him.
“Bare-knuckle with me? Conor stands no chance,” Trout stated confidently. “But I’d love for him to try—would be good.”
“I can’t think of another name worthy,” he continued. “Unless it’s just buying a win—that’s different. But for a fight deserving Conor’s caliber? Austin Trout is it.”
