Conor McGregor attended BKFC 41, stepped into the ring, and accepted a challenge from winner Mike Perry, resulting in an animated but respectful faceoff that generated buzz among fans and possibly boosted BKFC to new heights.
Conor McGregor’s presence was certainly felt at BKFC 41 in Broomfield, Colo. this past Saturday, as he emerged from the audience and stepped into the ring following the main event. He was called out by the winner, Mike Perry, leading the two to engage in an animated but respectful faceoff. This encounter had fans buzzing over the weekend, with McGregor still reflecting on the moment come Monday morning.
BKFC President David Feldman explained on The MMA Hour how McGregor happened to be seated in the crowd. Initially, the plan was to use McGregor’s security for a few things at the event, leading to the idea of inviting him. Feldman said, “We really didn’t know until right before the event started that he was definitely coming, and then he flew out from L.A. and flew into Broomfield. We picked him up and he made an epic appearance.”
McGregor not only faced Perry but did so with a BKFC championship belt slung over one shoulder. The title belonged to two-division champion Lorenzo Hunt. Pictures and videos of McGregor in the ring wearing BKFC gold quickly went viral, thrilling Feldman. McGregor even said, “I didn’t even fight for this promotion yet and I already have their belt,” which Feldman found particularly cool. Feldman added, “We climbed every bit of the way that we got here… everybody in combat sports was talking about us this week.”
Feldman knew Perry had a callout in store if he won, but was expecting it to be directed at Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone who was also attending. However, Perry ended up calling out McGregor instead, creating an amazing moment that Feldman believes may have boosted the BKFC to new heights. He claimed that they have “really parked into the No. 2 spot in combat sports right now.”
