Conor McGregor doubled the prize money for Franco Tenaglia and Tony Soto after their intense five-round fight at BKFC Spain, where Tenaglia won the lightweight title by majority decision.
Conor McGregor turned the BKFC Spain main event into a “red panty night” for both fighters. Franco Tenaglia claimed the lightweight title after a grueling five-round war with Tony Soto, but it was McGregor who made headlines post-fight.
“What we’re going to do for these two gentlemen as well as a bonus is double their purse,” McGregor declared, showering them with unexpected generosity. “They’re getting double pay. That’s damn straight. Well done, gentlemen.”
This grand gesture came from BKFC’s newest co-owner following one of the wildest fights in promotion history. Tenaglia and Soto threw defense out the window, stepping up to exchange massive combinations. At one point, Soto almost ended it with a devastating body shot in round two.
Yet Tenaglia endured and retaliated fiercely. By the fight’s conclusion, both fighters’ faces were battered, earning a standing ovation from the Marbella crowd. Judges scored it 47-45 twice for Tenaglia, with one calling it 46-46, crowning him the new BKFC lightweight champion—and significantly wealthier.
“I’ve been waiting for this 10 years,” Tenaglia said post-victory. “I used to fight in warehouses in the middle of nowhere but look at me now. I’m a world champion.” Quite the journey!
Meanwhile, in the co-main event, former boxing champ Austin Trout showcased his dominance by defending his welterweight title against Rico Franco. Trout knocked Franco down twice but couldn’t finish him off completely.
Judges unanimously scored it 50-43 for Trout, marking his first title defense and extending his BKFC record to 3-0. Impressive stuff!
In another thrilling bout, Dave Mundell obliterated Danny Christie with a crushing punch in round two. Mundell nearly ended it in round one but sealed the deal just 55 seconds into round two.
Christie hit the canvas hard and tried to rise, but the referee called it off. Sometimes bravery isn’t enough when facing such power.
