Bobby Green suffered a devastating knockout loss to Jalin Turner at UFC Austin, but remained positive and congratulated Turner for his win, despite criticism of the referee’s late stoppage of the fight.
Bobby Green, the MMA lifer, took a hard hit at UFC Austin. It was a pretty rough loss, but he’s keeping his spirits up.
The co-main event on Saturday didn’t exactly go Green’s way. He was on the receiving end of a brutal knockout by Jalin Turner. It was a bad situation, made worse by an irresponsibly late stoppage from referee Kerry Hatley.
Turner landed a couple of harsh punches that sent Green crashing down. He didn’t stop there, though. Turner kept going with a powerful ground-and-pound on Green, who seemed defenseless. The fight was eventually called off, but not before Hatley’s decision-making was heavily criticized by the MMA community. UFC CEO Dana White even called it “one of the worst I’ve ever seen.”
After UFC Austin wrapped up, Green updated everyone on his status. He shared this on Instagram Stories. He didn’t bring up Hatley’s late stoppage, though. Instead, he focused on giving Turner credit for the win.
Green started his message with a casual, “What up, guys?” He went on to say, “You win some, you lose some. I guess I want to show people that you’ve got to keep it G and you’ve got to keep it G when you lose.”
He gave a shout out to Turner. “You did your thing, brother. I’m so happy for you. It means the world that you stepped up on short notice and you had your success, so shout out to you.” He reassured his fans, “To all my people, it’s just another step in the thing, you know. Another step in the career. There’s ups, there’s downs, I’m a keep it going. I’m not going nowhere. Love you, guys.”
Green’s a seasoned fighter, with 48 pro bouts under his belt. He came into Saturday’s event on a two-fight winning streak. This included a stunning 33-second upset knockout of Grant Dawson. He was supposed to fight Dan Hooker originally, but Hooker had to withdraw due to an arm injury. That’s when Turner was asked to step into the co-headlining bout, with just nine days’ notice.
Turner’s gamble paid off big time. He broke a two-fight losing streak and improved his UFC record to 7-4. All of his wins have come by knockout or submission.
