Bryan Battle Addresses UFC 310 Weight Accusations & Randy Brown’s ‘Bum’ Comment

Bryan Battle experienced a tumultuous week leading up to UFC 310, securing a split decision victory against Randy Brown despite missing weight by four pounds and facing criticism, while expressing understanding of the backlash and openness to reconciling with Brown post-fight.

Bryan Battle experienced both triumph and turmoil leading up to UFC 310. On the bright side, as the winner of Ultimate Fighter 29, he was set for a significant matchup against Randy Brown at the year-end pay-per-view. However, things took a turn when he missed weight by four pounds, losing 30% of his purse and barely securing a split decision victory to maintain his undefeated streak.

Battle acknowledges the criticism for missing weight but insists he did everything possible to shed those extra pounds. "Not even Thursday night, all the way up to Friday morning, I was trying to make weight," he shared with MMA Fighting. Despite spending nearly an hour in the tub, his body refused to cooperate, forcing him to alert his team about the issue.

In the aftermath, some speculated that Battle intentionally missed weight to gain an advantage over Brown. He dismisses these accusations as short-sighted, emphasizing the broader implications on fan trust and matchmaker confidence. "I walked into the cage the same weight I would have if I made it," he said, refuting claims that he sought a strategic edge.

Brown accepted the fight despite Battle’s weight mishap, receiving financial compensation. Battle noted that if roles were reversed, he wouldn’t have fought under those conditions but respects Brown’s decision. "Excuses got to go out the window," Battle stated. Once Brown agreed to fight, any complaints about an advantage became moot.

The intense three-round battle concluded with Battle winning by split decision. Though not his best performance, he’s confident in the outcome. "I’m 100 percent confident in the decision," he asserted. Battle controlled much of the fight, landing impactful shots that went unnoticed by many viewers.

Despite a cut over his eye days before the fight and other setbacks, Battle emerged victorious. He understands Brown’s frustration and isn’t bothered by being called a "bum." In fact, he’d like to turn their rivalry into camaraderie once tensions ease.

"I think he’s saying what he needs to say," Battle commented on Brown’s remarks. He holds no ill will and even expressed interest in training together or sharing a meal if given the chance. If a rematch happens, Battle is open to it but also looks forward to potentially befriending Brown.
