Cain Velasquez Sentencing Delayed to 2025 for Attempted Murder Charges

Cain Velasquez’s sentencing for charges including attempted murder has been postponed to 2025, following his no-contest plea related to a high-speed chase and shooting incident involving a man accused of molesting his son.

Cain Velasquez won’t learn his fate until “early next year” because his sentencing got pushed to 2025. The former UFC heavyweight champ was supposed to appear in court this Friday for sentencing. He pled no-contest to several charges, including attempted murder and gun-related offenses from his 2022 arrest.

Life in prison looms over him, with parole as a possibility. But, after pleading no-contest and skipping a jury trial, the harshest sentence seems unlikely. Velasquez’s arrest followed an intense 11-mile car chase. He pursued a vehicle carrying Harry Goularte, accused of molesting Velasquez’s son at a daycare owned by Goularte’s mother.

During the chase, Velasquez fired multiple shots from a .40-caliber handgun. He hit Paul Bender, Goularte’s stepfather, in the arm, causing non-life-threatening injuries. When it all ended, Morgan Hill Police nabbed Velasquez without any further drama. He faced numerous charges that kept him locked up for eight months before getting bail.

The district attorney mentioned they found some interesting searches on Velasquez’s phone. Stuff like “sexual assault case where victims family fights back” and “sexual assault cases where victims family retaliates.” Goularte also has legal woes of his own. His next court date is Nov. 13 for setting his trial.

After spending those eight months behind bars, Velasquez was released on $1 million bail. Since then? He’s been busy coaching fighters at American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose and even dabbled in professional wrestling while waiting for his case to unfold. Now, he remains free until his sentencing hearing arrives in 2025.
