Caio Machado, after two controversial UFC losses, is determined to secure a crucial win against Brendson Ribeiro in UFC Edmonton by cutting down to 205 pounds, as his career is at stake.
Caio Machado’s recent UFC journey hasn’t been smooth sailing. He’s faced two narrow losses and now feels a win is crucial to secure his spot on the roster.
The Brazilian fighter carved out his MMA path in Canada before earning his UFC entry by defeating Kevin Szaflarski on Dana White’s Contender Series. Yet, he disagrees with the judges’ decisions against Mick Parkin and Don’Tale Mayes.
In a bid to turn the tide, Machado has dropped to 205 pounds. He hopes this change will boost his performance and punching power when he squares off against Brendson Ribeiro at UFC Edmonton.
“I’m in a super complicated situation,” Machado shared with MMA Fighting. “I disagree with those losses, but now it’s all about winning. This fight is do-or-die for my career.”
Machado’s story took an unexpected twist almost ten years ago when he moved to Canada for non-fighting pursuits. He fell in love with the country, stayed, got married, became a dad, and eventually gained citizenship.
However, life called him back to Brazil — not just for training but to be by his father’s side during his battle with cancer, a fight his father won.
“I’m thrilled to be fighting in Canada,” Machado expressed. Despite facing another Brazilian, he represents both nations. After fighting at the APEX, he’s eager to perform in front of a live audience again.
For Machado, Canada isn’t just where he fought; it’s home. And come Saturday, he’ll be ready to show that to everyone watching.
