Canelo Alvarez won a unanimous decision against Jaime Munguia in the first-ever undisputed championship bout featuring two Mexican fighters, retaining his super middleweight titles.
Canelo Alvarez isn’t ready to hand over the reins just yet.
In a historic first, two Mexican fighters squared off for the undisputed championship. Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) and Jaime Munguia (43-1, 34 KOs) put on a show. The 12-round bout was a back-and-forth spectacle, with Alvarez emerging victorious. He won a unanimous decision, retaining his super middleweight titles.
The fight was a nail-biter in the beginning. Alvarez, however, shifted the momentum with a knockdown in Round 4, thanks to a powerful uppercut. Munguia showed grit, but couldn’t build a consistent offense. The judges weren’t swayed, and Alvarez remained unthreatened.
Alvarez’s power was a sight to behold throughout the match. He didn’t knock out Munguia, but there was no question about who was the superior boxer when the final bell rang.
