Carlos Prates experienced his first UFC loss to Ian Machado Garry after a 4-0 streak, but he and his team, Fighting Nerds, are determined to come back stronger, expressing gratitude and unity despite the setback.
Carlos Prates hit a bump in the road. After a flawless 4-0 streak in 2024, he lost a decision to Ian Machado Garry in Kansas City. But he’s determined to bounce back stronger.
Prates skipped the post-fight presser. Instead, he took to Instagram, posting in Portuguese. “Unfortunately, I couldn’t finish the fight,” he admitted. “Sorry family, I’ll come back stronger.”
The Fighting Nerds team, once 19-0, now stands at 19-1. Prates’ loss was a first for the group, which includes talents like Caio Borralho, Jean Silva, and Mauricio Ruffy.
Silva didn’t hold back on social media. “Fck it, we’re a family,” he declared. “We’ll be champions together. Critics? Fck you all. I’m with ‘The Nightmare’ even in other lives.”
Borralho, the unofficial “team captain,” shared his thoughts too. In a heartfelt video, he thanked fans for their support. “Carlos is good,” he reassured. “We take this loss as a man.”
He continued, “We learn from tough losses. We’ll study the game and come back better. Congrats to Ian and Chute Boxe. Maximum respect.”
Borralho closed with optimism. “We’re changing the game. It’s just a setback. We’ll be back soon. All love.”
