Carlos Prates Shaves Head for Fan Battling Cancer Before UFC Kansas City

Carlos Prates fulfilled a fan’s request to shave his head, inspired by the fan’s battle with esophageal cancer, and shared a meaningful experience that highlighted resilience and life lessons ahead of his UFC Kansas City fight.

Carlos Prates probably receives a ton of messages on social media. But one in particular? It really caught his attention as he geared up for UFC Kansas City, where he’s set to face Ian Machado Garry.

This message was from Randy, a fan fighting esophageal cancer. Due to his treatments, he’s been losing his hair. So, he asked the Brazilian star if he’d shave his head upon arriving in Missouri. Prates was more than willing to oblige.

“He’s teaching me a lot this week,” Prates shared after meeting Randy on Wednesday. “We often gripe about the smallest things. And here’s this guy, diagnosed with terminal cancer, asking me to shave his head because I’m his favorite fighter.”

Prates continued, marveling at Randy’s resilience. “Our problems seem trivial compared to his. He’s standing strong, refusing to give up. That’s a life lesson right there: never give up.”

“But I’m sure he’ll be fine,” Prates added optimistically. “I hope to return in a few months and see him doing better.”

True to his word, Prates shaved Randy’s head and even gifted him a pair of Fighting Nerds glasses. A small gesture with a big impact.

For Randy, the experience was unforgettable. Spending time with Prates before the welterweight contender steps into the octagon Saturday? Priceless moments indeed.
