Charly Arnolt became the first woman to serve as a ring announcer in UFC history, briefly replacing Joe Martinez who was ill.
Charly Arnolt just made UFC history. That’s right, folks.
She did it on Saturday at UFC Vegas 91. What did she do, you ask? Well, she became the first woman to serve as a ring announcer in UFC’s history. Yeah, you heard that right.
She had to step in for Joe Martinez, the usual announcer. This happened right after a flyweight bout between Karine Silva and Ariane da Silva. She was asked to announce the fight result on the broadcast. Talk about being thrown into the deep end, huh?
Why was she called into action, you might wonder? Well, turns out Martinez was feeling a bit under the weather. He managed to return later in the evening though, after Arnolt announced the co-main event bout between Bogdan Guskov and Ryan Spann.
Martinez was back in the ring for the evening’s main event. It was a big one, featuring flyweight contenders Alex Perez and Matheus Nicolau.
But hey, don’t think this is all Arnolt does. She’s a busy woman. In addition to her UFC duties, she’s a television host for OutKick and even contributes to Fox News.
