UFC fighter Chris Curtis faced criticism for his walkout song choice, Sean “Diddy” Combs’ “Bad Boy For Life”, due to the rapper’s ongoing sexual assault and sex trafficking investigation, but explained on Twitter that he chose it out of spite after his original song choice was rejected by executives.
Chris Curtis sure showed some grit in his 25-minute brawl with Brendan Allen at UFC Vegas 90. But, it was his walkout song that had everyone going, “Huh?”
Before his split decision loss to Allen, Curtis strutted out to the octagon. His tune of choice? Sean “Diddy” Combs’ “Bad Boy For Life.”
Now, Diddy’s been in the news lately. And not for his music. He’s linked to an ongoing investigation. We’re talking allegations of sexual assault and sex trafficking. His Miami and LA homes were raided by authorities just last month.
So, Curtis’ song choice? Yeah, it raised a few eyebrows. Many thought it was in poor taste. After his loss, Curtis decided to explain his music selection.
He took to Twitter, saying, “I’m getting some weird looks so I’ll explain the walkout for you guys before I go to bed.” He went on, “Last night at dinner, I got a call saying my walkout song (The Rumbling by Stim) wasn’t approved by the execs.”
Curtis was miffed. He decided to go with Diddy, thinking there’s no way they’d approve it. But, he was wrong. They did. He admitted, “Jokes on me, they definitely approved it so we just went with it. Diddy is terrible, but it was kinda hilarious. I’ll do better in the future.”
In the fight, Curtis gave it his all. But, he came up short on two of the judges’ scorecards. He might’ve even torn his hamstring in the final seconds of the bout.
Despite the effort, Curtis feels he missed some opportunities. He tweeted, “Watched it back 4 times now. This one is going to sting for a while. Not mad at Brendan. He didn’t score the fight. But yeah… that was a huge opportunity. I made mistakes, but I thought I did enough. This one hurts.”
