Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman is planning another comeback with a match against Bruno Silva being targeted for UFC Atlantic City on March 30, although the bout has not yet been finalized.
Chris Weidman, the former UFC middleweight champion, is gearing up for another comeback. He’s no stranger to the UFC ring, and this time, he’s setting his sights on Bruno Silva.
They’re looking to square off at UFC Atlantic City. This event is slated for March 30, smack dab in the heart of Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall.
Now, this isn’t set in stone just yet. The news came from Laerte Viana initially, and MMA Fighting confirmed it with their own sources. But the final word? We’re still waiting on that one.
Weidman’s record stands at 15-7. He’s been on the mend, recovering from a leg fracture he suffered in his August 2023 bout against Brad Tavares. That fight was his first in 28 months, a hiatus caused by a nasty leg break just 17 seconds into his April 2021 match with Uriah Hall.
The former champ’s had a rough go of it lately. He’s lost four of his last five fights and seven of his last nine. His title reign came to a screeching halt with a knockout loss to Luke Rockhold back in 2015.
Silva’s been having a tough time too. His record is 23-10, but he’s lost four of his last five fights. His one win in that stretch was against Tavares, but he’s also suffered losses to Alex Pereira, Brendan Allen, Gerald Meerschaert, and Shara Magomedov.
Before this rough patch, Silva was on a roll in the UFC. He started his UFC career with three stoppage wins, two of which ended in the first round.
