Colby Covington claims that he retired Jorge Masvidal in 2022 and implies that Masvidal’s recent retirement from UFC is due to not wanting the memory of the loss to Covington hanging over his head.

Colby Covington Tells All: Claims to Have Retired Jorge Masvidal in 2022

Colby Covington recently gave an interview with Submission Radio in which he expressed his strong dislike for his former friend and teammate, Jorge Masvidal. Despite Masvidal’s retirement announcement following his loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287, Covington claims that he retired him back in March 2022 when they fought in Las Vegas.

According to Covington, Masvidal was already a “broken man” when they faced each other, and after losing to Covington, he didn’t want to live knowing that he retired off getting his ass beat by him. Covington believes that Masvidal’s recent loss to Burns was a way for him to avoid having Covington’s shadow hanging over his head.

As for the infamous altercation between the two at a Miami restaurant in 2022, which left Masvidal with felony charges and Covington with injuries, Covington had this to say, “I could care less about the journeyman Street Judas Masvidal. The guy’s a felon. He’s a criminal. He’s a coward. He’s not a real man. If he was a real man, he wouldn’t have done what he did to me.”

Despite the heated exchange, Covington claims that he’s done talking about Masvidal and that he’s only focused on Leon Edwards. Covington’s victory over Masvidal was by unanimous decision at UFC 272 in March 2022, and since then, their feud has only intensified. It remains to be seen how Masvidal will address Covington’s comments, but one thing is clear: the tension between these two fighters is far from over.
