Colby Covington has denied claims from Ian Machado Garry that a UFC fight between them has been offered, stating that the UFC has not approached him about this fight and accusing Garry of lying for attention.
A fight between Colby Covington and Ian Machado Garry? Sounds like a dream match-up, right? Well, it’s still in the realm of fantasy, at least for now.
Covington himself has shot down the rumors. He’s refuted Garry’s claim that the UFC has already proposed the fight to both parties. According to Covington, it’s not him who’s dragging his feet. He’s been out of the ring since last December. His last fight? A one-sided loss to Leon Edwards, the UFC welterweight champ.
Covington’s itching for his next challenge. But, he insists, the UFC hasn’t approached him about a potential face-off with Garry. “We all know that he’s a cuck but now we know he’s a liar,” Covington quipped on The Rush podcast. He accuses Garry of lying for clickbait and attention.
When Garry first called him out, Covington responded with a list of demands. It was as if he was holding the fight agreement hostage. He’s sticking to his guns, knowing Garry is unlikely to meet his conditions. “I don’t know who I’m fighting,” Covington admitted. He’s asked Garry to prove his seriousness about the fight.
Covington’s demands? They’re a bit… unconventional. He wants Garry and his wife, Layla, to enable comments on their Instagram posts. He’s also asked for a video of Layla begging him for the fight. And he wants her to feature in one of his sponsored gambling videos.
Garry meeting these demands? Highly unlikely. With Covington standing firm, a showdown between the two doesn’t seem any closer. “I just want to see he’s serious about business,” Covington stated. He doesn’t see the point in fighting someone ranked lower than him. He’s got a sweet contract with the UFC and will get paid well regardless of his opponent.
Covington’s got his eyes on the prize. He wants a rematch with Leon Edwards. He’s eager to prove his health and his prowess. He believes he’s the best welterweight in the world right now. If Garry really wants the fight, Covington says, he just needs to agree to the three stipulations. “Turn on the comments, cuck.”
