Colby Covington insults Brazilians as he prepares to fight Leon Edwards in London.

Colby Covington is set to fight Leon Edwards in a welterweight championship bout in UFC 291 and continues to insult Brazilian fans while praising British fans.

After Gilbert Burns defeated Jorge Masvidal at UFC 287, he called for a shot at the UFC welterweight title. However, the coveted spot will first be given to Colby Covington, who is ranked second in the category. Known for his bombastic personality and ability to antagonize opponents, Covington isn’t holding back after being promised the next shot at current welterweight champion Leon Edwards by UFC president Dana White.

Edwards had remarked that he wouldn’t fight Covington next as there was no one deserving of the shot. But Covington rebuffed that claim, calling Edwards a “nobody” who wasn’t a UFC draw and was acting privileged. Officials are planning for the two fighters to face each other at UFC 291 in July in London, a place where Covington believes he has many fans. He also took the opportunity to take a jibe at Brazilian fans, whom he has targeted in the past.

Covington’s history of deriding Brazilians dates back to his fight against Brazilian fighter Demian Maia in 2017. After his victory, he insulted the Brazilian audience by calling them “filthy animals.” Despite this, he is confident in his international appeal and is excited to put on a good show for his British fans.

In an appearance on Submission Radio, Covington addressed a range of topics including his recent victory, his ongoing rivalry with Edwards, Gilbert Burns, Jorge Masvidal, the UFC-WWE merger, and more. While Covington is targeting the welterweight title, only time will tell if he’ll be successful in securing the coveted UFC slot.
