Conor McGregor Responds Testily to Charles Oliveira’s Jab About His Inactivity: ‘You Are Nobody Now, Again’

Former UFC lightweight champions Charles Oliveira and Conor McGregor engaged in a heated exchange on Twitter after McGregor took offense to Oliveira’s comment about his inactivity since his last fight in July 2021.

There was a heated exchange between former UFC lightweight champions Charles Oliveira and Conor McGregor on Thursday. The spark was lit when McGregor found fault with Oliveira’s comments about his lack of activity in the fighting scene. Pulling no punches, McGregor publicly declared “Fighting is MOTIVATION,” to which Oliveira hit back by reminding the crowd that McGregor hadn’t stepped in for a fight since his July 2021 trilogy match against Dustin Poirier.

When Oliveira’s retort came to his attention, McGregor didn’t waste any time in producing a multi-Tweet response. No stranger to being vocal about his thoughts, McGregor fired back at Oliveira with comments like, “Recovering from a leg break, you nobody. You are nobody now, again.” The verbal jabs didn’t stop there as McGregor continued and commenting, “Get off that Lamborghini you broke bum.”

However, McGregor’s fighting performance record may not have heft to it lately. He has lost three out of his past four fights and has only competed in MMA four times since becoming a two-division champion in 2016. More so, while there was anticipation for his return to UFC late in 2023 against Michael Chandler after The Ultimate Fighter 31 season, that plan now seems uncertain. Not just his fighting schedule, McGregor’s status with USADA and his legal status, following an accusation of sexual assault at an NBA Finals game in Miami in June, remains ambiguous.

However, during his word rampaging, McGregor quite nonchalantly threw the Chandler fight into uncertainty and openly expressed a desire to fight Justin Gaethje and Nate Diaz soon. He confidently claimed, “Regardless of that nonsense match me and Nate will be completing the trilogy. I am going to go grab that bmf belt right quick for us to compete for it in the trilogy.” Clearly, McGregor is not letting personal or professional challenges deter him.
