Conor McGregor‘s coach, John Kavanagh, has said he is as unsure as everyone else about the fighter’s next move, despite McGregor being ready to fight.
John Kavanagh, Conor McGregor’s coach, is as clueless as the rest of us. He’s unsure about McGregor’s next steps in the MMA world.
Kavanagh was on The MMA Hour recently. He was there with his business partner, Rich Chou. They were talking about their company’s future.
Of course, the conversation turned to McGregor. Kavanagh’s star student and close friend. McGregor is a former two-division UFC champion. He’s currently in a sort of limbo. No fights booked for him yet. He’s been out of the ring since a leg injury at UFC 264 in July 2021.
Fans hoping for some inside info from Kavanagh? Sorry to disappoint. He’s waiting for an update, just like the rest of us.
Kavanagh admits he’s not into the politics and legal stuff. He finds it strange that there’s no news about McGregor. He tries to avoid all that. He leaves it to McGregor’s manager, Audie Attar, and the team. They handle all the back-and-forth with Hunter Campbell and the UFC team.
McGregor has been a big deal for the UFC. He’s brought in millions of pay-per-view buys over the past decade. He’s played a key role in taking the promotion to a new level of mainstream recognition. But, he’s only fought in MMA four times since 2016. Injuries, legal issues, a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr., and film roles have kept him away.
Speaking of films, the remake of Road House is premiering this week. It’s on Amazon Prime. Kavanagh hopes to see McGregor at an advance screening. He’s hoping to get a hint about what’s next for McGregor.
Kavanagh plans to meet McGregor soon. He half-jokingly tells journalists that they know as much as he does. Everyone’s looking for the inside scoop. But Kavanagh’s seeing the same clips pop up that we all do.
McGregor’s always traveling. Kavanagh’s always busy. He’s not constantly checking in with McGregor. He’ll find out when the next fight is announced. But he’s planning to ask McGregor about it.
UFC CEO Dana White recently suggested something. He thinks McGregor’s wealth might be why he’s taking his time to return. But McGregor himself said something else. He said the booking being “pushed back” is making him “lose interest.”
According to Kavanagh, McGregor is just waiting for a call. When asked if McGregor is ready to fight, Kavanagh said, “Yes.”
