Contender Series Fighters Suspended for Drug Test Failures

Abdellah Er-Ramy and Francisco Mazzeo, fighters from Dana White’s Contender Series, have been suspended for nine months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission due to failed drug tests, with both fined and required to undergo further testing before competing again in Nevada.

Two fighters from this season’s Dana White’s Contender Series have hit a snag. The Nevada State Athletic Commission has suspended them for failing drug tests.

Abdellah Er-Ramy and Francisco Mazzeo are the ones in hot water. Both lost their bouts, and now they’re facing suspensions for using banned substances. Tough break!

On Tuesday, during the commission’s monthly meeting in Nevada, adjudication agreements for both fighters were approved. Bureaucracy at its finest.

Er-Ramy was knocked out by UFC signee Torrez Finney in October. Post-fight tests showed Drostanolone, an anabolic steroid, in his system. Nine-month suspension? You bet.

Nine months on the sidelines and $750 lighter in the wallet—plus $157.04 for prosecution fees. He can fight again after June 30, 2025, but only if he passes more drug tests in Nevada. Rules are rules.

Mazzeo also got dinged with a nine-month suspension. He lost to Kevin Christian in September and tested positive for GW1516—a no-no metabolic modulator. His test was on fight day, Sept. 24.

The commission gave him the same deal: nine months out, $750 fine, $157.04 in fees. Eligible to return after June 23, 2025, pending additional drug testing. Déjà vu?

Quemuel Ottoni was also on the agenda but got a rain check until January. Remember when he bailed last minute against Kody Steele? Drama!

Steele had to scramble for a new opponent but still snagged a UFC contract. Talk about turning lemons into lemonade.

Ottoni’s fate? We’ll find out come January.
