Dan Hardy Believes Jake Paul Could Hold His Own Against Nate Diaz in MMA Clash

MMA fighter Dan Hardy believes that while Nate Diaz would likely prevail over Jake Paul in a potential MMA fight, Paul’s boxing skills and investment in training could make the bout more competitive than many expect.

Veteran UFC fighter Dan Hardy is of the opinion that Nate Diaz could defeat Jake Paul in an MMA bout, but also recognizes a reality where Paul might give Diaz a hard time. Recently, in a boxing rematch at the sold out American Airlines Center in Dallas, Paul emerged victorious over Diaz with a unanimous win. The triumph led to Paul expressing an interest in an MMA rematch—an idea many MMA fans consider ridiculous. However, in a conversation with Ariel Helwani, Hardy suggested that an MMA fight could be much closer than people anticipate.

Sharing his perspective on The MMA Hour, Hardy admits, “I know I’m going to get some heat for this, but I think it could be competitive.” He adds his observation that Paul willingly stood his ground and traded blows with Diaz during their boxing match. Hardy believes Paul possesses good boxing skills which he uses effectively, especially as Diaz moves within range. Speaking on the striking aspect of a potential MMA fight, Hardy notes, “You’ve got to think that in a striking sense, there’s going to be some kind of level of competitiveness because Nate was never really a kicker.”

Hardy further heaps praises on Paul for building a team of people who can train him effectively. Paul can afford to invest in himself and his preparations, as evidenced by his support for Amanda Serrano in her crossover. Paul is expected to compete for the PFL when he transitions to MMA, whereas Diaz has indicated his plans for a potential return to the UFC or under his promotion, Real Fight Inc.

A co-promotion deal between Real Fight Inc. and PFL could pave the way for a matchup between Paul and Diaz. Hardy expresses his interest in this possible event, assuming Diaz would win but not without a challenge from Paul. He suggests, “Most likely, Nate would submit him, of course.” Hardy’s reservation, however, has to do with Diaz’s age and stress from previous fights. As he explains, “Nate’s nearly 40. We do slow down and he’s got a lot of wear and tear on him. He’s not the same Nate that he used to be, of course.”
