UFC President Dana White has announced plans for a UFC event at The Sphere in Las Vegas in September 2024, promising an immersive experience and a celebration of Mexican combat sports history, despite the high costs associated with hosting an event in the $2.3 billion arena.
Dana White’s got his eyes on the prize. The UFC’s debut in The Sphere, Las Vegas, isn’t until September, but he’s already buzzing with anticipation.
This ain’t your average venue, folks. The Sphere is a whopping $2.3 billion arena, boasting over 18,000 seats. And get this – it’s got a 16K resolution wraparound LED screen for an immersive video experience.
White got a taste of The Sphere’s magic at a U2 concert. The venue’s grand opening left him awestruck. So much so, he announced the UFC’s next Noche UFC card will be held there in September 2024. A nod to Mexican Independence Day, no less.
White’s got big plans for the UFC card at The Sphere. He’s promising a spectacle like no other. “I was blown away by The Sphere when I went in there,” he confessed on The Pat McAfee Show.
Sure, there were skeptics. “You could never pull off a show in there. It will be too expensive,” they said. But White’s not fazed. He’s planning a massive tribute to the history of Mexican combat sports.
“Mexican Independence Day is gonna be wild,” White promises. “We’re putting on the greatest live event anyone’s ever seen. It’s a love letter to all of combat and combat sports throughout the history of Mexico.”
The card? Still a mystery. But White hinted at featuring a bunch of Mexican fighters, just like the Noche UFC card last September. The lineup might change after the UFC’s return to Mexico City on Feb. 24, though.
The Sphere’s potential? Barely scratched the surface, according to White. He’s particularly excited about the sound experience for fans. “Each person could end up with an individual experience watching the card,” he said.
The financial investment? Huge. But White’s not worried. He’s ready to take the risk. “What we’re going to pull off there, will never be done again,” he declared. “I’m not playing around with this. I’m going in guns blazing and I’m going to blow everybody’s mind with this event.”
