Darren Till is set to make his boxing debut against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul event on July 20, marking his first fight since parting ways with UFC in February 2023.
Darren Till’s got his gloves on and he’s ready to rumble. Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions spilled the beans on Wednesday. They’ve got Till lined up for his first boxing match against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. This is all set to go down at the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul event on July 20. Ariel Helwani was the first to spill the tea on this.
Till’s no stranger to the fight game. He’s a former UFC welterweight title contender and has also duked it out in the middleweight division. Since he said goodbye to UFC in February 2023, he’s been training for this boxing debut. His MMA record? Not too shabby at 18-5-1.
Till’s showdown with Chavez Jr. is a six-round, 190-pound bout. This is Till’s first fight since he lost to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 282. That was his third loss in a row and fifth in his last six fights. Ouch.
Till’s pretty stoked about this event. He said, “Paul vs. Tyson is gonna be huge, and I get to make my pro boxing debut there. How cool is that? I respect Chavez Jr., but I’m planning to knock him out in the first round. I’m in a good place in life and I’m ready to make a statement on July 20 in Texas.”
Chavez Jr. (53-6-1, 1 NC) is coming back after a long break. His last victory was against David Zegarra in December 2021. He’s no newbie to MMA crossover fights. He fought UFC champ Anderson Silva in 2021, but lost to “The Spider” in a split decision.
The July 20 card also features a match between Ashton Sylve (11-0, 9 KOs) and undefeated Floyd Schofield (17-0, 12 KOs). Both are hot prospects from Most Valuable Promotions.
Jake Paul, who co-runs Most Valuable Promotions with Nakisa Bidarian, is set to fight boxing legend Mike Tyson in the main event. The whole shebang is happening at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and you can catch it live on Netflix.
