David Benavidez and David Morrell had a heated exchange that nearly escalated into a brawl during an open workout ahead of their light heavyweight title fight scheduled for February 1 in Las Vegas.
David Benavidez and David Morrell are gearing up for a showdown. Their in-ring clash is still over a month away, but tensions are already high.
Scheduled for Feb. 1, the light heavyweight title fight promises fireworks. During an open workout in Miami on Tuesday, things almost got out of hand.
Benavidez pushed Morrell after a faceoff. In retaliation, Morrell lifted his WBA title and hurled it at Benavidez. Luckily, Benavidez ducked just in time.

As they faced off, the two exchanged heated words. Benavidez’s shove was forceful enough to make onlookers gasp. Morrell’s belt toss missed its mark, sparing any potential injuries.
Both fighters will bring their championship belts to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Feb. 1. Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) recently snagged a WBA interim light heavyweight title by defeating Oleksandr Gvozdyk in June.
Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs), on the other hand, holds his WBA interim title from a win over Radivoje Kalajdzic in August. The stakes are high.
The victor might get a shot at either Artur Beterbiev or Dmitry Bivol. Those two are set to rematch for undisputed light heavyweight champion status on Feb. 22. Exciting times ahead!
