Deiveson Figueiredo, after beating Cody Garbrandt at UFC 300, has expressed his desire to fight former UFC champion Dominick Cruz next.
Deiveson Figueiredo has got his eyes on another ex-UFC champ. He’s ready for the next big thing.
“Deus da Guerra” took down Cody Garbrandt, and it was a sight to see. This happened at UFC 300, where he won with a second-round rear-naked choke. That win made him 2-0 as a bantamweight. And now? He’s got Dominick Cruz in his sights.
Figueiredo’s been hearing some names thrown around. But he’s got a dream. A dream to face Dominick Cruz. He spilled his guts to Canal Encarada, saying, “Dominick has a big name and everybody knows the history he has in the UFC. He works for the UFC and is always on the spotlight, and I hope to one day get to fight him.”
Cruz, a former UFC and WEC bantamweight titleholder, has had his fair share of wins. He’s beaten Casey Kenney and Pedro Munhoz back-to-back. But he lost to Marlon Vera in a knockout in August 2022. That’s his most recent fight.
As a UFC flyweight, Figueiredo’s record is 11-3-1. He’s beaten Brandon Moreno, Alexandre Pantoja, Joseph Benavidez (twice), and Alex Perez. Not too shabby, huh?
Figueiredo thinks Cruz could be his ticket to a title fight. He’s got that sparkle in his eye.
For his UFC 300 fight, Figueiredo trained with Bellator legends Patricio Pitbull and Patricky Pitbull in Brazil. After his win, he hung around Las Vegas for a bit. He was doing some “recovery work” at the UFC Performance Institute. And staying in shape, just in case the UFC comes calling.
If he had his way, Figueiredo would schedule his next fight for UFC 303. That’s happening on June 29 in Las Vegas.
Figueiredo’s ready. He’s staying ready. He said, “For me, it would be sensational to fight on the [Conor] McGregor card in June. That depends on [Cruz] signing the contract, and I’ll be ready. I want to fight him. I want to make this fight happen.”
