Diana Belbita, a Romanian-Canadian strawweight fighter, confirmed that her arm was not broken after a UFC Vegas 58 match, but she may have suffered a ligament tear.
Diana Belbita, the Romanian-Canadian strawweight, can finally let out a small sigh. Her latest fight’s over.
She didn’t exactly come out on top, though. Saturday’s UFC Vegas 58 saw her on the receiving end of a particularly brutal armbar submission.
She was up against Molly McCann in a preliminary fight. And it didn’t end well.
With just a few seconds left in the first round, Belbita had to tap out. But she wasn’t quick enough. As the fight ended, viewers could see her arm popping.
Ouch, right?
After the fight, Belbita confirmed a report from Sportsnet. Her arm wasn’t broken, thank goodness. But she did hint at a possible ligament tear.
“No broken bone,” she said.
She’s gotta get an MRI as soon as she’s back in Canada. “It feels like a torn ligament,” she added.
If there’s a tear in Belbita’s arm, it could keep her out of the ring for a good chunk of 2024.
This fight against McCann was Belbita’s second. She lost a decision to the Englishwoman in a flyweight bout back in October 2019. This loss brings her UFC record down to 2-5.
Not the best news, huh?
