Dricus du Plessis clarified that rumors about his injury are false, confirming he has discussed a future fight date with the UFC and plans to defend his middleweight title again in 2025, with potential challengers Khamzat Chimaev or Caio Borralho likely next in line.
Dricus du Plessis wants to clear the air about his health and fight status.
This week, rumors flew around about a possible injury. Some even said the UFC middleweight champ was dodging potential challengers like Khamzat Chimaev and Caio Borralho. But on Thursday, du Plessis took to social media to set the record straight.
“OK, so everyone had their opinions and rumors and stories about a shin break and injuries etc.,” he began.
“I found it all very entertaining, unfortunately none of it is true myself and [UFC] already discussed a fight date and opponent, the June fight was never signed I did not pull out of any fight, I am the champion I know when I fight you as a contender just show up when we tell you to. Fight announcement coming soon stay tuned.”
He didn’t specify when we’d hear about his next title defense or when it’ll actually happen. But by his account? He’s eyeing 2025 for his next showdown.
Du Plessis last defended his belt in February at UFC 312 against Sean Strickland. He snagged a unanimous decision win, marking his second consecutive title defense after tapping out Israel Adesanya in the fourth round at UFC 312. Not too shabby with a perfect nine-for-nine record in the UFC.
So who’s next? Odds are it’s either Chimaev or Borralho. Chimaev’s unbeaten in 14 pro fights, finishing all but one opponent. Meanwhile, Borralho’s riding a 17-fight unbeaten streak with a clean 7-0 in the UFC.
