Dustin Poirier Open to BMF Title Rematch with Max Holloway

Dustin Poirier, hinting at retirement, is interested in a final fight against Max Holloway, now the BMF champion, despite having defeated him twice before.

Dustin Poirier, despite his two victories over Max Holloway, is eager for another showdown with the current BMF champion. The allure of stepping back into the octagon with Holloway is undeniable for “The Diamond.”

After losing his lightweight title bout to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302 in June, Poirier hinted at winding down his illustrious career. He teased fans with the prospect of one last fight before closing this chapter. Now, with Holloway as the BMF belt holder, Poirier sees a perfect opportunity for what he calls the “last dance.” As he mentioned on Twitter, this matchup could be the ideal farewell.

Their first clash was back at UFC 143 in February 2012, where Poirier submitted Holloway. Fast forward seven years: they met again for the interim lightweight title. It was an electrifying contest, with Poirier securing a unanimous decision win at UFC 236 in April 2019.

Recently, Holloway faced a significant turning point after being knocked out by Ilia Topuria at UFC 308—the first KO of his career! This loss seemed to mark the end of his featherweight journey. A move to lightweight is now on the horizon. Holloway claimed the BMF belt with an astonishing last-second knockout against Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 in April.
