Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson gifted a house in Miami to UFC fighter Themba Gorimbo, who had been sleeping on a couch in his gym and had just $7 in his bank account prior to his first win at UFC Vegas 73.
UFC fighter, Themba Gorimbo, was gifted a new house in Miami by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This came after Gorimbo caught Johnson’s attention when he revealed that he only had $7 in his bank account before he got his first win at UFC Vegas 73. Johnson documented this surprising and emotional encounter with Gorimbo on a video and shared it on social media. Gorimbo previously had to sleep on a couch in the back of his gym.
After his victory over Takashi Sato at UFC Vegas 73, Gorimbo made an announcement about his intention to auction his fight kit. The proceeds from this would be used to build a water well in his native Zimbabwean village, showing a philanthropic spirit rather than directly funding his own career. Gorimbo was quoted saying, “I was happier raising that money than I was after my win when I helped these people build this borehole and helped these kids pay for their school supplies, I don’t want to go back so I can say ‘I helped you guys.’”.
Gorimbo’s actions and selfless intentions moved Johnson, who had a similar early life scenario with only $7 in his bank account, which he now uses as his company’s name, Seven Bucks Productions. During their meeting, Johnson told Gorimbo, “When I found out you had $7 in your bank account, I know what that’s like. You win your second fight, sell your fight kit, buy a water well for your village – your actions say exactly who you are, and that’s why I flew all the way in. Just to tell you, I got your back.”
Johnson further showed his support when he offered Gorimbo a new place to call home. Upon seeing the UFC fighter’s simple living arrangements, Johnson decided to drive him to a house which he bought expressly for Gorimbo. During the handing over of the keys, Johnson, with heartfelt sincerity, welcomed Gorimbo home. The UFC fighter, extremely moved by the gesture, promised to use this gift to further give back to his home village in Africa. He’s planning to build another borehole in his village using his own funds, which was initially planned to buy a house. Gorimbo, who currently holds a 1-1 record in UFC, promised Johnson, “I will become a champion. Trust me.”
