Eryk Anders was unable to compete at UFC 309 due to food poisoning, leading to the cancellation of his bout with Chris Weidman.
Eryk Anders wasn’t going to make it to UFC 309. No chance, he says.
As the Madison Square Garden event got underway, Jon Anik dropped some unexpected news. Anders’ fight with Chris Weidman? Canceled. The reason? Anders fell ill.
On Sunday, Anders took to Instagram with an update. Food poisoning hit him Friday. You can check out his video below.
“Status update—got food poisoning Friday night,” he wrote. “No way I could compete.” Disappointment is an understatement for missing a shot at MSG against a former champ. He doubts that chance will come again but hopes for a rebooked match soon. Fans flooded him with messages of concern, and he’s grateful.
“Ya Boi” was set for his second fight this year. Earlier in March, he ended a three-fight losing streak by beating Jamie Pickett at UFC Vegas 87.
Life throws curveballs, doesn’t it?
