Cameras caught the scene in Henry Cejudo‘s locker room following his split decision loss to Aljamain Sterling, during which Cejudo blamed himself and questioned if he wanted to continue fighting.
Henry Cejudo, an American mixed martial artist and former UFC bantamweight and flyweight champion, lost in a split decision to Aljamain Sterling during UFC 288. Cameras inside Cejudo’s locker room at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, captured the scene following the loss.
Cejudo expressed gratitude to his team and acknowledged that he needed to make adjustments in the fight. However, his team, including his manager, believed that he had won. Cejudo blamed himself for losing and questioned whether he wanted to continue fighting. He stated, “It’s my fault. I knew what I had to do and I kind of relaxed and I got taken down.”
Cejudo also reiterated his desire to be the best in the world and his unwillingness to settle for less. He declared, “This is about me being the best in the world. I’m not here to f**king start chasing sh*t. You know what I mean? That’s not me. I’ve done everything there is to do. I want it all. If I can’t have it all, then I won’t f**king have it at all. That’s how I am. That’s just how I am.”
In the video embedded on the website blog, fellow UFC fighter Sean O’Malley expressed his opinion that Cejudo should have won the fight. The scene inside Cejudo’s locker room provides insight into how fighters handle losses and the emotions they experience after such a defeat.
