Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker defeated Paulo Costa at UFC 298, denying Costa a title shot by outpointing him via unanimous decision.
So, here’s the deal. Robert Whittaker, ex-UFC middleweight champ, put a stop to Paulo Costa’s title shot dreams at UFC 298. Yeah, you heard that right.
Whittaker outscored Costa, and it wasn’t even close. The judges handed him 29-28 twice and a 30-27, all thanks to his superior striking over three rounds. But it wasn’t all smooth sailing.
Costa landed a high kick at the end of the first round that nearly knocked Whittaker off his game. But, like a true champ, Whittaker fought back. He proved he’s still got it at 185 pounds.
Now, let’s talk about the UFC 298 co-main event. It was held at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, and it had everyone talking. And by everyone, I mean the fighters.
Terrance McKinney (@twrecks155) tweeted, “Whittaker won that shits crazy how good costa cardio is for carrying all that muscle.” (https://twitter.com/twrecks155/status/1759087211390107953?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)
Casey Oneill (@kingcaseymma) chimed in with, “Listening to people who don’t know mma try to tell me decisions are crazy concerns me… what do you guys see ? Rob won that for sure.” (https://twitter.com/kingcaseymma/status/1759087257158578529?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)
Michael Chiesa (@MikeMav22) added, “Great fight from Robbo. His grit matched with his skills is a hard combination to deal with. #UFC298.” (https://twitter.com/MikeMav22/status/1759086867545563586?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)
And Terrance McKinney (@twrecks155) again, “That’s a classic fight these guys squared up for 15 minutes #UFC298.” (https://twitter.com/twrecks155/status/1759086525055422912?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)
So, there you have it. The reactions from the fighters themselves.
