Despite a consensus that Chidi Njokuani won the UFC Atlantic City fight against Rhys McKee, one judge, Mamunah Querido, controversially scored the bout 29-28 in favor of McKee, sparking surprise and criticism from other UFC fighters.
Well, it’s like this. Almost everyone who saw the fight live was pretty sure Chidi Njokuani had won. He’d taken on Rhys McKee in the main card opener of UFC Atlantic City. But, there was this one judge who didn’t see it that way.
Two judges, right? They scored it 30-27 for Njokuani. That was the general consensus. Even a 29-28 Njokuani would’ve been okay. But then, things got weird.
We had to wait for the scores. Bruce Buffer read them out. And then, Mamunah Querido scored it 29-28 for McKee. Talk about a shocker! It’s a frontrunner for the worst scorecard of the year, no doubt.
In the end, it didn’t matter. But, a lot of UFC fighters were stunned with Querido’s card. You can see their reactions below.
Jamahal Hill (@JamahalH) was one of them. He tweeted: “Send that judge home NOW!!! Chidi won that clear as day 30-27!!!!” on March 31, 2024.
He also added, “This fight was easy to judge!!!”
Terrance McKinney (@twrecks155) had a funny take. He tweeted: “One of those judges is on that Atlantic City booger sugar lol” on March 31, 2024.
Alan Jouban (@AlanJouban) was pretty upset. He tweeted: “Those are the types of decisions that make me angry. I had 30-27 Chidi. MAYBE you could find a way to argue 1 round for McKee. But 2 rounds is just insane! #UFCAtlanticCity” on March 31, 2024.
So, there you have it. A fight that was clear as day to most, but not to one judge. Go figure!
Yes, that judge should be fired immediately.
