Joaquin Buckley called out UFC fighter Conor McGregor following his win over Nursulton Ruziboev, but then shifted his attention to Gilbert Burns, who responded positively to the callout.
So, Joaquin Buckley’s got a bone to pick. Fresh off his victory against Nursulton Ruziboev at UFC St. Louis, he’s calling out the big guns. Yeah, you heard it right. He’s got Conor McGregor in his sights. But wait, there’s a twist.
He’s changed his tune. Buckley’s now got a more realistic target. And who might that be? None other than Gilbert Burns.
Buckley’s all excited about this potential face-off. He’s calling it a “beautiful matchup.” And guess what? Burns, or “Durinho” as he’s known, didn’t waste any time responding.
Burns, who’s also a co-host of the Show Me The Money podcast with fellow Brazilian fighter Renato Moicano, had something to say. He addressed the callout in a recent episode.
“Let’s do it,” Burns declared. He’s not one to shy away from a challenge. “I’m not in the situation to call anyone out or to pick and choose. OK, I’m No. 6 right now.”
And if they send him a contract for Buckley? “I’ll say yes now. I never say no to a fight, I’m not planning [to] start doing [that now].” That’s Burns for ya.
Buckley’s record? He’s 19-6. He’s been on a roll with four straight UFC bouts since moving back down to the welterweight division. He even knocked out Burns’ close friend and teammate Vicente Luque in the second round in March.
As for Burns, he’s a former welterweight title contender. He’s looking to bounce back after two consecutive losses against Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena.
