Gilbert Burns and Sean Brady are nearing a deal to fight at a UFC Fight Night event on September 7, potentially as the main event, with verbal agreements in place but no contracts signed yet.
Gilbert Burns and Sean Brady are close to finalizing a deal for a UFC Fight Night event on Sept. 7. The welterweights might even headline the event.
Sources familiar with the promotion’s plans confirmed the matchup to MMA Fighting on Monday. Verbal agreements are in place, but no contracts have been signed yet. MMA Bets on Twitter first reported the bout.
If the fight is confirmed, it will mark Burns’ return since his surprising loss to Jack Della Maddalena in March. Despite dominating most of the fight, Burns suffered a late knockout, extending his losing streak to two.
Burns aims to break his losing streak in September against another top-tier grappler, Brady.
Hailing from Philadelphia, the 31-year-old Brady is back in the spotlight after a stunning submission win over Kelvin Gastelum in December 2023. That victory earned him a Performance of the Night bonus. It also helped him rebound from his first career loss to top welterweight contender Belal Muhammad.
Brady now seeks his most significant win yet in this highly anticipated clash with Burns. This fight is crucial for both fighters in the welterweight division.
As of now, the location for the Sept. 7 event remains undisclosed.
