Gunnar Nelson is set to return from a two-year hiatus to face Kevin Holland in a welterweight bout at UFC London on March 22, with both fighters having verbally agreed but not yet signed contracts.
Gunnar Nelson is back. Yep, after a two-year break!
He’s gearing up to fight at UFC London on March 22. Who’s he facing? Kevin Holland in a welterweight showdown.
Now, both fighters have given the nod verbally. Contracts? Not yet signed. This tidbit comes from MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin, who got the scoop after KrazyKevMMA’s report.
Oh, and did you know? UFC London will be headlined by Leon Edwards versus Jack Della Maddalena at the iconic O2 Arena.
Nelson (19-5-1) last fought in March 2023. He tapped Bryan Barberena in the first round at UFC 286 in London.
“Gunni” has been on a roll, winning his last two UFC fights against Takashi Sato and Barberena. His previous loss was to Gilbert Burns in September 2019.
And then there’s Holland (26-13, 1 NC). Quite the busy bee—prepping for his 21st UFC bout since then!
Holland has impressive wins against Ronaldo Souza, Joaquin Buckley, Anthony Hernandez, Santiago Ponzinibbio, and Michael Chiesa since 2019. But he’s hit a rough patch: 1-4 in his last five UFC fights, including two losses at middleweight.
