Heavyweight Austin Green: Tased in Bar Brawl Turned Pro Bodyguard Success Story

MMA prospect Austin Green began his career as a professional bodyguard after being involved in a bar fight, and he now works to protect celebrities while also fighting and wrestling professionally.

Austin Green never imagined he’d receive a job offer as he sat in the back of a police car, covered in blood from a bar fight and being hit with a taser three times. The military veteran and heavyweight MMA prospect had found himself in an alcohol-fueled brawl at a nightclub with his friends when things spiraled out of control. Despite trying to defuse the situation and leave, Green’s imposing stature—standing 6-foot-5 and weighing over 265 pounds—caught the attention of the lead bouncer at the club, who approached Green with a surprising proposition.

As Green sat detained in the police car, the security guard asked, “Do you want to work? You really handled yourself well.” Green agreed, and it would ultimately lead to his career as a professional bodyguard. Before long, he was protecting a number of A-list celebrities and rubbing elbows with even bigger stars, though the stoic look on his face would never betray his excitement at being a part of this exclusive world. “It’s been interesting, to say the least,” Green said. “It’s cool because you get to see the side of celebrities that most people don’t see.”

Green even adapted the nickname “Bodyguard” as an MMA fighter, where he boasts a perfect 5-0 record. He now faces UFC veteran Juan Adams in the Fury FC 78 main event on Sunday. In addition to fighting, Green has also dabbled in professional wrestling, training under WWE superstar Cody Rhodes in Atlanta and appearing in All Elite Wrestling events. Juggling his various pursuits, Green has learned to balance his commitments and make the most of every opportunity, always keeping an eye on the bigger picture. “Now’s the time to do it,” Green said. “I’m not getting any younger. The older you get, those bumps start to add up, so my body is still feeling good. Now is the time to try and knock all those out.”
