Henry Cejudo is experiencing double vision after an eye poke prematurely ended his UFC fight against Song Yadong, and he is calling for a rematch despite UFC CEO Dana White’s lack of interest in booking one.
Henry Cejudo’s recent UFC clash with Song Yadong ended in disappointment. An eye poke left him seeing double, forcing a premature halt to the fight. Now, he’s calling for a rematch.
With just 80 seconds remaining in the third round, Cejudo took a five-minute break after the eye poke. He attempted to continue but admitted to referee Jason Herzog, “I can’t f*cking see” at the round’s end.
The doctor stopped the bout at the start of Round 4, leading to a technical decision. The victory was awarded to Song, leaving Cejudo frustrated.
“We wanted to finish the fight, man,” Cejudo expressed on social media. Despite his usual resilience to eye pokes, this time was different. Even after five minutes, he was still seeing double.
Initially hopeful he’d recover, Cejudo soon realized his vision wasn’t improving. He’s now facing a 30-day suspension and plans to consult a specialist for treatment.
Cejudo believes a point should’ve been deducted from Song for the foul. He compares it to basketball’s technical fouls and suggests replays could help referees make fair decisions.
“It’s unfortunate, dude,” he remarked. While acknowledging Song’s actions weren’t intentional, Cejudo insists on stricter enforcement of rules against finger-poking.
He recalls the referee’s pre-fight warnings about keeping fingers tucked in. Yet, he found himself dealing with two fingers in his eye during the fight—an experience he describes as “unfortunate.”
Cejudo also mentioned past incidents with Herzog, including low blows and now this eye poke. He urges for better referee training and replay reviews in such cases.
Despite UFC CEO Dana White’s disinterest in an immediate rematch, Cejudo is hopeful. “Dana White, I know you said that you’re not interested… Dude, let’s run it back,” he pleads.
He emphasizes the unfinished nature of their bout: “There were still two rounds left.” Cejudo argues both fighters were scrapping hard and deserve another chance.
