Ian Machado Garry is set to fight Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310, with Charles Oliveira in his corner, aiming for a welterweight title shot and expressing ambitions to eventually claim multiple UFC belts.
Ian Machado Garry’s got some extra firepower for UFC 310.
This Saturday, Garry faces Shavkat Rakhmonov in a five-round co-main event. It’s a pivotal fight—winning could put him next in line for a welterweight title shot. So, he’s pulling out all the stops. Even bringing along a special corner man.
“I read a stat the other day,” Garry said on YouTube. “Charles Oliveira went to the fourth round for the first time in his career after his 46th UFC fight. That’s insane! The guy’s a machine!”
“I f*cking love and adore Charles Oliveira with all my heart,” he continued. “He’s absolutely the most entertaining fighter in the UFC. Never been in a boring fight. He’s an absolute savage, and he’s going to be in my corner for this fight.”
Extra help? Can’t hurt, right? Like Garry, Rakhmonov’s undefeated, but never needed judges’ decisions. A flawless 18-0 with all finishes. Many think he’s the next welterweight champ. But Garry plans to shatter that dream on Saturday.
“I think God has a plan,” Garry mused. “If God wants me to finish Shavkat, He’ll make it happen. But I have no problem thumping it out for 25 minutes to make a statement.”
“I’m going to win, no matter what,” Garry added emphatically. “Mark my words: Dec. 7, Ian Garry vs. Shavkat Rakhmonov—I’m getting my hand raised, 16-0, by any means necessary.”
Should he back up his bold talk, he’ll likely challenge Belal Muhammad next for the welterweight title. At just 27, he’d be one of the youngest champs in UFC history. But he’s not stopping there.
“You’ll see,” Garry declared, “I’ll move up to middleweight and take that belt too. A second belt is for sure happening. Might even go up to light heavyweight for a third belt. Trust me, I can do anything I want.”
UFC 310 goes down on Dec. 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
