Israel Adesanya has responded to Dricus du Plessis‘ callout after his UFC 297 win, hinting at a future showdown between the two rivals.
Adesanya and du Plessis, huh? It’s a rivalry that’s been brewing for a while now. Israel Adesanya reckons it’s about time they settled their score.
Dricus du Plessis, fresh off his middleweight championship victory over Sean Strickland at UFC 297, didn’t waste any time. He used his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier to throw down the gauntlet to Adesanya. And boy, did he get a response!
Adesanya isn’t one to let a call-out slide. He hit back on social media, posting a flurry of videos. Some were from a 2016 training session they shared. Others showed their intense face-off at UFC 290. He even included a highlight reel of his reign as champion.
He tweeted: “IS~RA~EL ADÉSÀNYÀ‼️ This arc in my story was written long ago. Our paths are destined to cross again. Stay tuned for the next episode, thanks for watching. We Write History ✨✍️.”
The pair had a pretty heated exchange last July. It happened after du Plessis’ knockout win over Robert Whittaker. It seemed like that victory was setting up a bout with Adesanya. But then Adesanya lost his title to Strickland at UFC 293 in September. Following that, he said he was going to take a break from fighting.
But if du Plessis gets his way, they could be facing off at UFC 300. That’s set for April 13 in Las Vegas. As of now, there’s no official main event. Could this be it? Stay tuned, folks!
